Aftercare Instructions

At Emerald Artistry Studio, we provide the beautiful artwork that you truly love. When you leave the studio, the healing of your tattoo is in your hands!  After your session, it's important to keep a new tattoo covered and moisturized so your skin heals well and you avoid any infections.

But don't worry, we will go over proper aftercare instructions and materials both in this post, and at the end of your session. If you still have questions about caring for your tattoo, don't hesitate to ask us!

To care for your new tattoo, you will need the following:

  • Pump antibacterial soap (ex. Dial)
  • Clear Plastic Wrap (generic is preferred, it clings to the skin better)
  • Aquaphor and fragrance-freedye-free lotion (ex. Aveeno, Lubriderm)

Instructions

  1.  One hour after your session, remove plastic wrap.
  2. Wash hands with pump antibacterial soap first, then wash tattoo with the soap and lukewarm water.
  3. Pat dry with clean towel (don't rub).
  4. Allow at least 20 minutes to air dry.  Do not let anything touch your tattoo, including fingers.
  5. Cover again with plastic wrap.
(Discontinue and wash area immediately if you experience any adverse reactions to plastic wrap such as burning, redness, or hives. Then use Aquaphor only, applying a thin layer and massaging into skin. Continue this as needed for 2-3 days, then switch to regular lotion such as Aveeno or Lubriderm.)
  6. Repeat cleansing and rewrapping process 2-3 times per day for the first two days.  DO NOT USE LOTION OR OINTMENT WITH PLASTIC WRAP.
  7. After the second day, discontinue plastic wrap and start using lotion to keep hydrated.  Rub in gently and thoroughly, not leaving excess lotion or ointment on tattoo.

Important Reminders

  • The top layer of skin on a tattoo will peel off and itch.  This is part of the healing process and is good and normal.  DO NOT pick or scratch this peeling skin off.
  • Showers are fine, but NO baths or swimming for at least 2-3 weeks after your tattooing session.
  • No swimming in lakes or ocean or pools until your tattoo is completely healed.
  • Keep the tattoo completely covered and out of sun and tanning beds for the first 5 weeks. After 5 weeks, use SPF 60 or higher. Fresh tattoos are extremely susceptible to sun damage, and they will scar and heal slowly if burned. It is recommended to never use tanning beds.
  • Normal exercise is fine, cleanse the tattoo afterwards.
  • You were tattooed in a clean studio. One-time-use, sterile needles and equipment were used. The successful healing of your tattoo is up to you after you leave this studio. If you have ANY questions, PLEASE do not hesitate to ask!

Your tattoo should heal in 5 weeks.  Consult a physician if any signs or symptoms develop such as redness, green/yellow discharge (foul smelling) and/or fever.

Should you have any problems or questions, call or text the studio immediately.

Thank you and enjoy your new tattoo!

Sincerely,

Jamie Fifer
